Gigio est très sollicité dernièrement comme étalon, surtout de reproducteurs en Allemagne. Pourquoi surtout de l'Allemagne ? En Allemagne, de nombreux éleveurs ont reproduit, se basant souvent sur des origines anglaises, selon des critères parfois incompréhensibles, de sorte à ce que leurs Shih-Tzu's s'éloignent loin de la taille idéale voir dépassent souvent le poids prescrit par le standard FCI. Des femelles approchant 9 kg ou même plus ne sont pas une rarité. Ces femelles sont souvent plus lourdes que beaucoup de mâles qu'on voit ailleurs en Europe Continentale, forcément, l'élégance et la féminité se perdent. Comme le disait un éleveur connu: ' En Allemagne, un Shih-Tzu doit être bien en chair et court sur pattes....''
Gigio est un très beau mâle, qui ne pèse que 6,2 kg à l'âge de 15 mois, il ne va pas dépasser 6,5 kg à l'âge adulte. Il se situe donc exactement au juste milieu du poids idéal. D'où la volonté d'éleveurs sérieux de marier des femelles trop lourdes avec des mâles d'une taille idéale, pour arriver à des résultats plus en ligne avec le standard du Shih-Tzu.
Pour rappel:
Poids selon le standard FCI: 4,5 kg à 8,1 kg. Poids idéal = 4,5 à 7,3 kg.
